The federal government of Pakistan has formally approved policy directives allowing telecom operators to begin 5G trials in Gilgit-Baltistan, signaling a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation efforts, particularly in remote and mountainous regions.
According to official details, the directives were prepared by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on behalf of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council and approved under Article 60(2)(a), read with Entry No. 1 of the Third Schedule of the Gilgit-Baltistan Order 2018. The move clears the way for telecom companies to conduct technical trials of next-generation mobile connectivity in the region.
