Pakistan Unveils Six-Pillar AI Policy to Boost Innovation and Global Competitiveness

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has announced a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy framework built around six main pillars to guide adoption, innovation, and global positioning.

The policy focuses on:

  1. AI Innovation Ecosystem – Tracking the growth of startups and SMEs using AI, creating new AI-based jobs, and promoting AI solutions in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, and smart cities. Attracting investment for AI ventures is also a priority.
  2. Awareness and Readiness – Encouraging AI research, patents, and academic work. More research funding and grants will be provided to prepare Pakistan’s workforce for opportunities in AI.
  3. Secure AI Ecosystem – Enhancing cybersecurity, setting data standards, and ensuring ethical AI use. The plan includes digitizing and linking key institutions like NADRA, WAPDA, FBR, and education and health systems to enable real-time data sharing.
  4. Transformation and Evolution – Supporting AI adoption in key industries and developing local large language models.
  5. AI Infrastructure – Expanding computing power, creating AI hubs, and improving access to datasets.
  6. International Partnerships – Building global research collaborations and participating in major AI forums to stay updated on global trends.

The MoITT says these steps will help Pakistan become more competitive in the rapidly growing AI market while creating jobs and driving technological progress.
