Jazz has announced that its JazzFi Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service has reached 11 million users in Pakistan, highlighting growing customer adoption of Wi-Fi-based calling technology. The service is designed to improve voice connectivity, particularly in places where traditional cellular signals are weak or unreliable.
Offered by JazzWorld, JazzFi allows customers to make and receive calls using their existing mobile numbers over Wi-Fi networks. The service works through a compatible smartphone’s built-in calling features, eliminating the need to install a separate application.
Launched in July 2023, JazzFi made Jazz the first mobile operator in Pakistan to introduce direct Wi-Fi-enabled calling to mobile and landline numbers, according to the company. Its growing user base reflects increasing interest in technologies that help customers stay connected in different network conditions.
Wi-Fi calling can be particularly useful inside buildings, offices, homes, and other locations where cellular reception may be limited. By routing calls through an available Wi-Fi connection, the service offers customers another way to maintain voice connectivity when conventional mobile signals are inconsistent.
Khalid Shehzad, Chief Technology Officer at JazzWorld, said VoWiFi complements traditional mobile networks by providing an additional route for reliable voice communication. He noted that integrating the technology into the network helps customers stay connected while making better use of available network resources.
The milestone also highlights the role of complementary technologies in improving the overall mobile experience. Rather than relying solely on cellular coverage, services such as JazzFi can use available Wi-Fi networks to help support everyday communication.
JazzFi is available nationwide on compatible smartphones. Customers can generally enable the feature through their phone’s settings, provided their device and service support Wi-Fi calling. Once activated, calls can be made through the phone’s regular calling interface using the customer’s existing mobile number.
The service is intended to make the calling experience more convenient, as users do not need to change their numbers or learn a separate calling application. It also supports simultaneous voice and data usage, helping customers continue using their phones while connected through Wi-Fi.
Jazz continues to invest in its mobile network and complementary connectivity technologies as it works to meet changing customer expectations. The company sees solutions such as JazzFi as a way to extend the benefits of connectivity beyond conventional cellular coverage.
Reaching 11 million users marks a significant adoption milestone for the service. As customers increasingly expect reliable communication at home, at work, and while moving between different environments, Wi-Fi calling is becoming an important addition to traditional mobile network services.
JazzFi’s expansion demonstrates how mobile operators can combine cellular infrastructure with Wi-Fi technology to offer customers more options for staying connected. Actual call quality will still depend on factors such as Wi-Fi performance, device compatibility, and network conditions.
