Ufone Nearly Overtakes Jazz as Pakistan’s Mobile Subscribers Cross 211 Million

Pakistan’s cellular market is witnessing a major shift as Ufone moves closer to overtaking Jazz in subscriber numbers. The two telecom operators are now separated by just 150,000 subscribers, highlighting the increasingly competitive nature of the country’s mobile telecommunications industry.

According to data cited by Arif Habib Limited, Pakistan’s total cellular subscriber base reached 211.47 million in September 2026, crossing the 211 million mark for the first time in the reported period.

Jazz maintained its position as Pakistan’s largest cellular operator, with 76.44 million subscribers and a market share of 36.15 percent. However, Ufone followed closely with 76.29 million subscribers, representing 36.08 percent of the overall market.

The difference between the two companies stood at approximately 150,000 subscribers, putting Ufone within close reach of the market leader.

Zong remained the third-largest cellular operator, recording 56.62 million subscribers and a market share of 26.78 percent. Meanwhile, the Special Communications Organization (SCO) had approximately 2.12 million subscribers, accounting for around 1 percent of the market.

The latest figures reflect the changing dynamics of Pakistan’s telecommunications sector, where competition for subscribers continues among the country’s major mobile network operators.

Pakistan’s Mobile Subscriber Base Continues to Grow

The overall cellular subscriber base increased by 0.14 percent month over month during September 2026. The market added approximately 300,000 subscribers during the month, taking the total from its previous level to 211.47 million.

The longer-term growth figures also indicate a steady expansion in mobile connectivity across Pakistan.

Since December 2025, the country’s cellular subscriber base has increased by 5.4 percent. During this period, telecom companies collectively added 10.91 million subscribers, taking the total from 200.56 million to 211.47 million.

The market also recorded consistent growth throughout the first nine months of 2026. According to the reported figures, the subscriber base increased from approximately 202.6 million in January to around 211.5 million in September.

This expansion highlights the continued importance of mobile telecommunications in Pakistan, where cellular networks provide essential communication and internet services to millions of people.

Competition Between Jazz and Ufone Intensifies

The narrowing gap between Jazz and Ufone is one of the most notable developments in the September subscriber data.

Although Jazz continues to lead the market, Ufone’s subscriber count is now almost equal to that of its largest competitor. A difference of just 150,000 subscribers means relatively small changes in customer numbers could affect their positions in future monthly reports.

For telecom operators, subscriber growth is an important indicator of market performance. Companies compete through network coverage, service quality, internet packages, pricing and customer experience to attract and retain users.

Zong also maintains a substantial presence, with more than 56 million subscribers, while SCO continues to serve a smaller segment of the market.

With Pakistan’s cellular subscriber base exceeding 211 million and Ufone moving closer to Jazz, upcoming industry figures will be closely watched for further changes in the country’s telecom market share.
