PTA Advises Mobile Users to Enable Wi-Fi Calling for Better Connectivity

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has advised mobile phone users to enable Wi-Fi Calling and review their 4G/LTE settings to improve call quality and connectivity, particularly in areas where mobile network signals are weak.

The advisory highlights a common problem faced by smartphone users who experience dropped calls, poor voice quality, or difficulty connecting to a mobile network while inside buildings, basements, and other locations with limited signal coverage.

Wi-Fi Calling can help address some of these issues by allowing compatible smartphones to make and receive calls over a Wi-Fi internet connection instead of relying entirely on traditional mobile network signals. This feature can be especially useful in places where cellular coverage is limited but a stable Wi-Fi connection is available.

However, the service depends on support from the user’s mobile phone, software, and mobile network operator. Users may need to activate the feature in their phone settings and confirm that their network provider supports Wi-Fi Calling on their device and package.

On many Android smartphones, Wi-Fi Calling can be found under Settings, followed by Network and Internet or Connections, and then SIM or Mobile Network settings. The exact menu names may vary depending on the manufacturer and software version.

iPhone users can generally check the feature by opening Settings, selecting Mobile Service or Cellular, choosing their SIM, and looking for the Wi-Fi Calling option. If the option is unavailable, users can contact their mobile operator to confirm whether the service is supported.

The PTA has also advised users to check their 4G/LTE settings. Keeping the appropriate network mode enabled can help compatible devices connect to available mobile services more effectively. Depending on the handset and network, users may find these options under Mobile Networks or Voice and Data settings.

Users should also ensure that their phone software is updated and that their Wi-Fi connection is stable when using Wi-Fi Calling. Restarting a phone or reconnecting to the network may help resolve some temporary connectivity problems.

It is important to understand that enabling Wi-Fi Calling does not automatically improve every connection issue. Call quality can still be affected by slow or unstable internet, network-provider restrictions, device compatibility, and other technical factors.

The advisory serves as a reminder for smartphone users to review available connectivity features rather than relying solely on cellular signal strength. For people who frequently make calls from homes, offices, basements, or other locations with poor reception, Wi-Fi Calling may provide a practical way to maintain more reliable communication.
