The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public advisory urging mobile users to activate a free service aimed at preventing unexpected balance deductions caused by mobile data usage.
In its statement released on March 19, 2026, in Islamabad, the authority warned that users often face additional charges when their data bundles expire or are fully consumed. In such cases, mobile internet may continue running on higher Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) rates, leading to rapid balance depletion.
To tackle this issue, telecom operators provide a free feature commonly known as a “Balance Save” or PAYG blocker service. Once activated, this tool automatically stops mobile data usage as soon as a user’s data package is exhausted, preventing further charges.
The PTA emphasized that many users remain unaware of this option, which can help them manage their mobile expenses more effectively. By enabling the service, consumers can avoid bill shocks and maintain better control over their prepaid balances.
This advisory comes as mobile internet usage continues to grow across Pakistan, with users increasingly relying on data services for communication, entertainment, and work. However, without proper safeguards, expired bundles can quickly result in unexpected deductions.
Telecom experts suggest that activating the PAYG blocker is especially useful for prepaid users who may not monitor their data usage regularly. The feature ensures that internet access is paused until a new bundle is subscribed, eliminating the risk of unplanned charges.
The PTA has encouraged all mobile users to contact their respective service providers or use official apps to enable the Balance Save feature. The process is typically simple and free of cost, making it accessible to a wide range of consumers.
As digital connectivity expands, such consumer protection measures are becoming increasingly important. The PTA’s latest advisory highlights the need for awareness and proactive steps to avoid unnecessary financial losses in everyday mobile usage.
