The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has conducted a mock auction session as part of its final preparations for Pakistan’s upcoming 5G spectrum auction scheduled for March 10. The exercise was designed to test the bidding platform and ensure the auction process runs smoothly when telecom companies compete for the spectrum.
The rehearsal session was attended by representatives from major telecom operators including Jazz Pakistan, Zong, and Telenor Pakistan. Participants joined the exercise online to test the specialized auction software that will be used during the official bidding process.
During the mock auction, experts from NERA Economic Consulting, the international consultant supporting the regulator, provided a detailed briefing to telecom operators. The session covered the auction structure, bidding procedures, and key technical elements related to the spectrum allocation.
The practice exercise allowed telecom companies to familiarize themselves with the digital auction system. It also enabled PTA officials to verify the reliability of the platform and ensure all technical components function correctly before the official sale begins.
Officials stated that the mock session is an important step in guaranteeing transparency and efficiency in the spectrum allocation process. By simulating real bidding scenarios, both regulators and telecom companies can better prepare for the actual auction.
The upcoming spectrum auction is considered a major milestone for Pakistan’s telecommunications sector. The allocation of new spectrum is expected to pave the way for the launch of 5G services, significantly improving internet speeds, network capacity, and digital connectivity across the country.
Industry experts believe that 5G technology will play a crucial role in accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation. The introduction of next-generation connectivity can support advancements in sectors such as smart cities, e-commerce, telemedicine, and digital education.
For telecom operators, the auction will determine how much spectrum each company can secure to expand its network capabilities. The results will likely shape the competitive landscape of Pakistan’s telecom industry for years to come.
With preparations nearing completion, the PTA aims to ensure that the official auction process proceeds without technical issues. If successful, the initiative will mark an important step toward bringing high-speed 5G connectivity to millions of users across Pakistan.
