Women Teachers Empowered with Electric Bikes in Sialkot Initiative

Sialkot marked Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day with a special ceremony dedicated to empowering women in education. Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali awarded electric bikes to 14 female teachers, recognizing their essential role in shaping society.
She emphasized that no nation can move forward without the contributions of women, especially teachers, whose efforts remain indispensable. The initiative aims to encourage female independence and provide safe, convenient commuting options for educators.
The Deputy Commissioner also thanked the business community for supporting the program financially, making it possible to provide vehicles that will reduce transport barriers. Training will be offered to ensure recipients can handle their bikes confidently on the road.
Applications for the next stage of the scheme have already surpassed 650 female teachers. Priority will be given to vulnerable groups, including widows, divorced women, and those supporting families on their own. Distribution will take place via computerized ballot for transparency.
This initiative adds momentum to Pakistan’s broader programs for women and workers. Recently, the Workers Welfare Board Sindh also expanded its electric bike program to minority industrial workers, alongside female beneficiaries. The board committed Rs. 3 billion in Shariah-compliant Sukuk bonds to enhance facilities for workers, while also introducing an accidental health insurance plan worth Rs. 700,000 annually.
These parallel efforts highlight how mobility, healthcare, and financial support are increasingly seen as crucial tools for empowering women and marginalized communities in Pakistan.
